Michael is also a small-gauge analogue filmmaker and installation artist. His personal films have been shown throughout the United States and abroad. His work seeks to narrate the process of historical research as a series of poetic inquiries. Films are centered on the act of looking into the past. Filming as research, research as seeing. Traveling down dark-winding streets in Paris, through rice paddy fields in Vietnam and out into the open expanse of the American West, his films are always searching. They are themselves the objects that reflect this act.
